What the Award Means
In November 2025, the beauty industry received a significant signal about where high-performance skincare is heading. The award was presented in Shanghai by Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L'Oréal, who described Peauvita™ and Peauforia™ as bioactive platforms that combine high performance with a positive impact on the planet.
The Problem with How Growth Factors Have Always Been Made
To understand why this award matters, you first need to understand the problem Core Biogenesis set out to solve.
Growth factors such as proteins that signal the skin's cells to repair, regenerate, and rebuild structural proteins like collagen and elastin are among the most powerful actives available in modern skincare. The challenge has never been whether they work. It's been how to produce them at scale, keep them stable long enough to be useful, and deliver them into the skin layers where they actually need to act.
Traditional production of human growth factors relies on microbial or mammalian cell fermentation: processes that are energy-intensive, expensive, difficult to scale sustainably, and prone to yielding proteins that are unstable outside tightly controlled laboratory conditions. What Peauvita™ and Peauforia™ Each Do
Peauvita™ is an Oleosome-EGF fusion, Epidermal Growth Factor delivered via oleosome. It works by binding to EGF receptors on keratinocytes and fibroblasts, activating the signaling cascade responsible for cell proliferation, collagen and elastin synthesis, and the skin's natural renewal cycle. The result in clinical testing: measurable reductions in fine lines and wrinkles, and significant improvements in skin firmness, all within 14 days of use.
Peauforia™ is an Oleosome-FGF-2 fusion, Fibroblast Growth Factor-2, also delivered via oleosome. FGF-2 plays a distinct but complementary role: it is particularly active in moderating melanocyte behavior and repairing the basement membrane, the structural layer between the dermis and epidermis whose disruption underlies the persistence of melasma and hyperpigmentation. Peauforia™ was shown to measurably diminish melanin in hyperpigmented areas and restore the skin barrier within 14 days.
Together, the two actives address the four primary visible signs of aging, wrinkles, firmness loss, hyperpigmentation, and barrier impairment, through a single, unified biological approach.
How They Compare to Retinol
The clinical data here is striking. In a 60-day randomized, head-to-head clinical trial against 0.3% retinol, a serum containing 1.0% Oleosome-EGF and 1.0% Oleosome-FGF-2 demonstrated superior outcomes across multiple aging markers: wrinkle depth reduction of 25.5% versus 16.3% for retinol, and wrinkle length reduction of 27.2% versus 22.2%. The combination also delivered visible improvements in skin smoothness in 77% of participants by day 30, and significant brightness improvements by day 30, an area where retinol showed no comparable benefit. The critical distinction is not just efficacy, it's the manner of efficacy. Retinol relies on controlled irritation to stimulate skin turnover, which often results in redness, dryness, or peeling.
